With the roster cuts expected before Monday’s deadline, the Phoenix Mercury have waived seven players as they try to figure out what the team will look like come the start of the 2024 WNBA season.

In an email from the team, Phoenix announced they had waived center Bella Murekatete, forward Mya Hollingshed and guards Amy Atwell, Ariel Hearn, Charisma Osborne, Jaz Shelley and Christyn Williams.

Every team in the WNBA has 12 players per squad and Phoenix currently sits at 11. Diana Taurasi, Sophie Cunningham, Brittney Griner, Kahleah Copper, Natasha Cloud, Rebecca Allen, Sug Sutton, Natasha Mack, Morgan Bertsch and Kiki Herbert Harrigan all remain on the roster as well as Liz Dixon signing a training camp deal.

Dixon was undrafted last season and split it between Phoenix and the Connecticut Sun. While in the Valley for her first stint, the Memphis native played 10 games, averaging 2.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists.

Out of the list of those who were waived, both Shelley and Osborne stand out as they were just drafted by the Mercury in April. Osborne was the 25th pick out of UCLA and Shelley was No. 29 from Nebraska.

Hearn scored nine points and Atwell posted eight in Phoenix’s 98-85 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday night.
